Our Before-Care hours start at 6:45am. Classes begin promptly at 7:45am until 2:45pm. We also offer Extended-Care from 2:45pm until 6:00pm for an additional charge. We IMPACT your Preschool student's reading abilityWe have partnered with the University of Illinois at Chicago's Early Reading First Program to start the program model IMPACT (Instructional Model Program for All Children and Teachers), Our Prechoolers will have their classrooms enhanced to be able to improve the literacy environment. This is achieved by having our Preschool teachers and UIC coaches working together to implement read aloud and phonological awareness instruction, as well as starting the World of Learning curriculum. For more information about the Program or curriculum please find the link below. Title 1Title 1 is a government funded program under the No Child Left Behind federal education program. This program is a "supplemental reading and/or math program." It is supplemental because the Title 1 teachers are "adding to the work already going on in the classrooms." When students are in Title 1 they work in small groups no larger than 6 people, helping students build their self confidence in their abilities to learn. Title 1 teachers work hand-in-hand with classroom teachers to make sure the student is making progress. Title 1 teachers reinforce what is taught in the classroom and is not a homework help program. Students who attend Title 1 do not miss new material taught in the classroom. If your student is recommended to attend Title 1 there is no cost for the program. If you have any questions about Title 1 or if your student is in Title 1 and you would like to speak to someone about your child please contact: Ms. Theresa Flores, Title 1 Teacher, at (773)-342-7550. Children also recieve computer classes one to two times a week. During computer classes children learn through special educational software tailored for each grade level. Our junior high students also learn many of the basic softwares such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint, and even Moviemaker. All children at Saint Hyacinth Basilica School as young as Preschool learn how to type and the functions of computers. If you have further questions about our Art classes and Computer classes please contact Mrs. Linda Bruek by phone at (773)-342-7550 or email: lbruek@sthyacinthbasilicaschool.org Physical EducationHere at Saint Hycinth Basilica School we strive to make our Physical Education program enjoyable as well as educational for your children. Classes are run by incorporating activities into the program that will make your children think, as well as grow both mentally and physically. We also enrich our physcial education program by intertwining the children's classroom learning into our gym activities. Saint Hyacinth Basilica School's gym classes will have a structured period in which your child will have a proper warm-up activity (such as a game), a lesson that will focus on developing a variety of new skills (whether it be in sports, dance, or fitness), and a cooldown where the students will be debriefed and asked questions on what they learned and allow them to stretch. This is all in the hope that students will be able to develop lifelong skills and healthy habits. It's important they learn structure, hard work, teamwork, and good communication skills they can use in their everyday lives as they grow. At Saint Hyacinth Basilica School our staff works with each and every child to accomplish these goals. If you have further questions about our Physcial Education classes please contact Mr. Ismael Alvarez Jr. by phone at (773)-342-7550 or email: ialvarez@sthyacinthbasilicaschool.org
